Light Curtains

Light curtains are a non-separating guarding device designed to monitor a large area. A light curtain consists of a bank of lasers and sensors arranged in a line that monitor the area between two points, triggering effects when the lasers are broken. This can range from an automatic emergency stop to limiting machine movement or even specific permissive conditions that only function when the curtain is broken. Light curtains are also considered more reliable than laser area scanners, which are not suitable for SIL 3 environments.
